On International Day of The Girl, the hope is that everyone will continue to support and uplift the efforts of thousands of organizations and advocacy groups who aim to provide clean water, food, education, medical services, access to healthcare and safety for women and girls. This year, the theme is, “GirlForce: Unscripted and unstoppable. As we stop to honor this important day each year, we wanted to take a look at some of the iconic Black girl characters who inspired us and made us see ourselves in their stories. One thing that ties us together no matter, race, creed or sexual orientation is cinema. While some of the below actors and shows have seen their legacies tarnished due to recent controversies, their roles still remain entrenched in the cannon of #BlackGirlMagic.
